SOYLsense Variable Rate Nitrogen

As unpredictable weather continues to affect growing conditions, SOYLsense customers are able to closely monitor the crop canopy across their farm with most already receiving four Leaf Area Index maps of their fields.

The weather conditions have exacerbated canopy variation beyond what is normally recorded with most farms showing both very low and very high biomass across the farm. These factors make variable rate nitrogen management more relevant and more beneficial than ever before. The ability to easily identify bare patches in fields means that these areas can be zoned out of application maps before spreading occurs, taking the decision to “turn off the spreader” in certain areas out of the hands of the operator. Over and above the management of bare patches SOYLsense ensures that growers are able to identify areas of good potential and push towards optimum canopy size to maximise their yields even in a difficult season.

If you would like to explore the benefits SOYLsense could bring to your farm for your remaining nitrogen applications get in touch with your usual SOYL contact today.

Book Your Soil Sampling

There is still time to organise P and K soil sampling this season. We have a network of trained soil samplers across the UK available for sampling now. Please contact Rebecca Tickle to organise your sampling on 01635 204190.

Performance Mapping at Precision Farming Event

Making the most of multiple years’ worth of yield data can be a daunting task. At this year’s Precision Farming event, SOYL’s Technical Manager, Simon Griffin, talked about how SOYL’s new Performance Mapping service can help you interpret, manage and benefit from yield data.
