SOYL work with a number of vineyard growers and vineyard consultants to help them make the most out of their investment in vines - when it comes to crop nutrition.

Understanding soil type and nutritional variation before planting is vital so as to select the correct vine stocks when planning a new vineyard.
In established vineyards it’s just as important to manage nutrient variation with high resolution nutrient sampling, soil texture analysis and capture a better data set of information for trace elements.

Stage 1 – Before planting or within established vineyard sites – Discuss with your local SOYL area manager the best sample resolution to suit the vineyard size and select additional nutrient analysis required. A fully trained SOYL sampler will drive field boundaries and establish the best layout of sample points in the field.

Stage 2 – Soils are independently analysed for macro and micro nutrients and reported in visual maps to show in-field variation.

Stage 3 –SOYL create fertiliser recommendations for vines in pre-plant stage and established vineyards. Our FACTS qualified team are able to provide up to date advice on your fertiliser needs. Maps can be provided to apply fertiliser at the right rate for each part of the vineyard for use with a GPS application system.

Stage 4 - All of your nutrient data will be available on MySOYL – SOYL’s web based data management system.

Duncan McNeil, McNeil Vineyard Management Ltd said the following about Vineyard management with SOYL:

“I consider soil nutrient mapping to be an essential part of pre planting and vineyard site preparation. The variations in nutrient levels and soil pH across the sites I work with can be very significant. This is particularly important for phosphorus, magnesium and soil pH, where unidentified areas of deficient nutrients can really delay vine establishment. Being able to apply materials at variable rate prior to vine plantation is vital, and the nutrient mapping provided by SOYL is what enables me to apply the correct amount of fertiliser in the necessary areas of the field. I have found the service provided by the sampling team to be excellent and also the speed of turnaround for results.”
